Only point for the saints in a match to be won

Blog and reviews of fixed-games

Southampton has climbed one position in the standings but is still in the relegation zone after just reaching a draw in his Brighton household. St Mary`s 25th Premier League round ended 1:1. The guests found Glen Murray in a penalty kick in the 14th minute, and in the middle of the second half Jack Stevens leveled. Southampton did not take a single win in its previous 11 games and logically dropped to the bottom of the table. Mauriceio Pellegrino`s team, however, showed progress in the draw against Tottenham (1:1) and today had to look for a mandatory 3 points.

the hosts had two changes to the squad compared to the match against the Spurs. Manolo Gabiadini and Mario Lemina sat down on the bench, and Shane Long and Stephen Davis took their seats. Among the reserves was the new addition Guido Carriot. Brighton suffered a heavy loss of Chelsea on Chelsea in the previous round and came to St. Mary with only a point more than the saints. Chris Houghton hoped his team would get at least a tie on the field of a direct competitor in the battle for survival and bet on a more defensive tactic, with Glen Murray starting at the top of the attack and Pascal Gross behind him. Gaetan Bong and Jose Ischierdo returned to the right and flown to the right wing. Outside of the band remained a record purchase of Juergen Lokadia, who treated the trauma.

The tradition was Southampton. The South Beach team had lost only one of their last 27 home games, and Brighton was the team with the least goals scored in the Premier League.

`The Saints` were flying with an ice shower as early as the 14th minute when Glen Murray opened the penalty for the guests. The violation that led to the penalty shootout made Wesley Hout against Solley March. The goal confuses the hosts. Their attacks did not bring any surprise, and Shane Long remained isolated in the front. Isikerdo was Brighton`s most dangerous footballer, and the `seagulls` were almost always looking for Colombian fugitive.

In the 31st minute, Matthew Ryan`s goal-keeper made a lot of foolishness, but he was lucky that after his tricky clearing and ricochet in Tadic, the ball broke from the beam. Shortly before the break, Murray could write off for the second time, but Alex McCarthy saved. Still on vacation, Pellegrino made a double shift, releasing Carrio and Sofian Boufal in the seats of Tadic and Oriol Romeu. Buffalle was a strong one and was at the heart of Southampton`s most conspicuous attacks.

In the 64th minute, James Ward-Prauss is centered on the foul, the ball hatched Ischierdo and a bit happily diverted to the Stevens door. A little later, Guido Carriot was close to his first goal with Southampton, but shot in the off. Ryan was revanved for the first half with an excellent intervention after Pierre-Emil Hoyberg`s jump. By the end, the `saints` continued to press their opponent but could not break their negative series and no longer knew the taste of victory in 12 championship mentioned by fixed-games matches. Southampton still replaced Swansea from 19th place and Brighton was 15th.
